The new record from A SOUND OF THUNDER is complete and due out on Nightmare records, distribution through Sony/Red.

John Gallagher from the legendary RAVEN makes a guest vocal appearance on the record's total track "Out of the Darkness."

Since we share the same hometown as these guys (and gal), it is especially nice to see them moving upwards and fitting in time for head squeeze from John in the studio. Cheers. -Kevin

This showed up on our doorstep this week. Platinum award for SHINEDOWN- Sounds of Madness CD/DVD release. The live tracks were originally used for a Shinedown special that aired on MTV. Atlantic put them on the deluxe version for the CD/DVD release.

I did some work on the tracks here at the Vienna, VA studio, then Jeff Juliano mixed them in Delaware. Jeff is a great guy, amazing mixer, and fellow coffee drinker. He killed this one. For now, this award will take up some more space by the studio microwave beating out today's coffee selection. -Kevin

WHILE HEAVEN WEPT

Nuclear Blast recording artists WHILE HEAVEN WEPT were just in to mix tracks for the Prog Power 2011 DVD. It was cool to mix tracks from "Of Empires Forlorn" a record we started exactly 10 years ago.

Tom Phillips and Rain Irving were in to oversee the mix... but this is definitely a LIVE dvd! No crazy post production, no recutting of all the instruments and vocals... these guys sound powerful live. Then again, I may be biased since I can be bought with whiskey. But I assure you (this time) I was not... Doom Onwards.

ARMIN VAN BUUREN... TIME WARP

To say this is a bit late is an understatement, but it gives a good excuse to say hello for an update!

We just found out tonight that "Imagine" by super DJ Armin Van Buuren went NVPI-certified Gold overseas. The track "Fine Without You Now" (featuring Jennifer Rene) was recorded at Assembly Line Studios in 2009. Yes, we know this post is a bit, um late. No matter, the official video for the track has a stunning 14 million views on YouTube and late is better than never.

Congrats to Armin, who deserves every bit of success he continues to enjoy. Truly one of the nicest guys around. And thank you to Ben McCall, super engineer from a different era here who made it happen.

Our own J. Scott G. released his single featuring Adam Lambert this month. Following a tweet from Adam, "Live the Life" shot to #2 on the Itunes Electronic charts. I gotta say, I was quite buzzed for Scott, and no one could be happier to be writing this post and giving a promo and congrats to a good friend and super talented musician that I certainly look up to. Yes, I ended that sentence with a preposition.

Reunited POWERMAD came in from Minneapolis to start tracking their much anticipated new record... Heavy power/thrash metal. You may also remember them from the classic David Lynch movie "Wild at Heart" where they had a great scene where Nick Cage woos Laura Dern. For this, they are forever good in my book.

It's been a blast and I am really excited about the new stuff. Jeff Juliano will be mixing and it should be rollin real soon... Cheers! -Kevin

FRANK SOLIVAN and DIRTY KITCHEN

The Washington Area Music association (WAMA) recently announced the nominees for their award show. FRANK SOLIVAN and DIRTY KITCHEN were nominated for 5 awards, and were also asked to perform at the show. The awards, affectionately known as the Wammies will be held at the historic State Theater in Falls Church, VA on February 20th. Frank and the guys were at Assembly Line tracking last winter with Kevin... then flew back down to Nashville to mix.

Congrats guys. Bring home all 5?

Matt and Matt

How did it turn into 2011 already? Matt is in LA, holding down the fort for Grammy events and looking all chummy with Matthew Bellamy/MUSE. I am just jealous that he is in LA and it's still cold here on the East Coast.

I cant complain too much, I just got back from 70,000 tons of metal, which left from Miami and sailed to Cozumel and back. 40 metal bands on a boat!

A few records are in the works and are tracking now at ASSEMBLY LINE STUDIOS, will post as we get closer to completion and the powers that be say we can post ridiculous pictures of them.

It's been busy bouncing back and forth on back-to-back-to-back records! FUNKMNKYZ record is almost done. They have had a great summer, including playing the MAIN STAGE at Merriweather Post Pavillion, HFSestival along with 3rd Eye Blind, Lit, Fuel, Billy Idol, blah blah etc. I think their new record will be a nice surprise, we took it from ambient, to super heavy in places. This has been a real fun one and a surprise even for me.

ROME IN A DAY is back in... they have moved into metal territory... so you know that is right up my alley.

BALOR'S EYE in in and starting tracking technical prog metal.

AMANDA LEE has started tracking. Incredible songs, and I swear, no autotune on her anywhere, she is that good.

When all this clears, I will be mixing the new BELIEVER record for the legendary Metal Blade records.

DRUMFISH- "Memoirs" is complete. They are currently featured on AOL free radio blog. They tell me that has a listener base of several million. So great exposure coming up.

Also congrats are in order for their win in the rock category on IndieInternational... all hail free stuff and knowing that the tracks are standing out.

Bret Michaels Custom Built- #1 on Rock Charts

Congrats to Bret Michaels for getting healthy and then coming right back to have "Custom Built" hit #1 on the rock charts! After some studio magic and ancient chinese secrets done here at the Vienna, VA studio- it was back to head master chef Jeff who mixed a couple of tracks for the record, including Nothing to Lose (featuring Miley Cyrus).

The summer is getting busy again, the Elephant Room is becoming quite the comfortable place to record- and work continues on the massive construction and renovation of the Sistrum. More details soon...

DRUMFISH

Where have the last few months gone? Oh yeah, the were a blur while doing the DRUMFISH record, which is finally done! Totally cool to work with the guys again, we had done a record like 10 years ago... now it's a whole new (good) level. The record is off to mastering, and will be out soon.

Other than that- let's see, got to do some work for Jeff on the Bret Micheals track that just came out. Heard it is it opened his new show, pretty cool.

Finishing a live record for my good friends at Bridgeway church too. I always love doing these, set up, go! -- come back and mix it over a week. Fun change of pace. That's it for now... will be hitting some of the Grammy events/ meet and greets with Matt, so drop by and say hello!

ROCKBAND

"UNSTOPPABLE" by White Line AllStars came out on RockBand game today. Thanks to Donna and Shadow Mountain for all they do. Personally feels like a cool one for me since this is a track that me and Scott wrote, and have a good friend Clapp singing on it. We spend so much time doing work for other people, it feels really good to have one of our own be developed for gameplay. This was our first single, so it feels even more special. The trailer looked way cool, so I can't wait to play the actual game myself and FAIL quickly. Stop by the Rock Band store and pick it up!

ADAM LAMBERT

The buzz is starting to be leaked out- Scott wrote a KILLER track with ADAM LAMBERT that will be released soon. Great hook! He sent it over to me today to put some guitars on a section of it, so I gladly did. Will be cool to see and hear this one when it comes out.

RAVEN SIGNS WITH METAL BLADE

Congrats to RAVEN, signing to legendary label METAL BLADE in the States, and SPV/Steamhammer in Europe. The new record was recorded at Assembly Line Studios last year. As a huge Raven fan, this was a fun one to work on and I think captures what they do best- energetic and powerful. No click, no massive studio trickery, just the band and it's energy- something which becomes more and more rare these days. Totally refreshing. Congrats guys, I think I am as excited as you guys on this one. (kevin)

AMA, WAMMIES

Twilight just keeps going and going. For crying out loud I was eating at Burger King and having my onion rings off a Twilight mat. Really? Anyway, Twilight won an AMA (American Music award) last month. So (yet again) congrats to OAR!

Congrats to Amy Sullivan, who is up for two Wammies this year. (Washington DC music awards) Always a pleasure to work together and cool to see an artist work hard, be recognized, and gain some ground.

Back to working on the All Time Low- Hammerstein Ballroom show, this thing is killer... killer! Off to Jeff for mixing, he'll slay it. Cheers to the New Year!
